Styling Men's Watches Made Easy

A watch says a lot about a man including his level in society, wealth, and individual style. There are endless styles of watches out there but you only need to know about the main ones to have in your collection. Use this knowledge to choose a better watch next time you get dressed or if you're looking to treat yourself to a new one.

Watches You Should Consider

If there is one watch that is considered mandatory it is the dress watch. These boast a simple leather band(normally in brown or black) and a simple face/dial. They are best worn to work, formal events, and semi-formal occasions. If you are wearing a suit, this will be your go-to watch. The leather of your dress watch should always match your shoes and belt if possible.

Next you will need something that leans more on the casual side when you aren't dressed as fancy. This is where chronograph, diver, and field watches come in handy. These are less formal watches you could rock with casual attire or even business-casual outfits. If you have a metal watch, assure that it matches with any other metal accents like loafer bits. The devil is in the details.

When you are working out, hiking, or playing sports and need to tell time, analog or LED watches are your best bet. These are normally made out of a durable plastic and can be roughed up a bit. They are also cheaper and have simple looks to them.

Styling

Styling them is pretty simple, it's really a matter of understanding which watches you should wear with what kind of clothing. Here are some rules:

  • Suits should always be worn with dress wathces.

  • Never wear a suit with a dive watch.

  • Wear a chronograph watch with casual or business casual attire. With GPS, compasses, and other features they make for a useful tool during hikes as well.

  • Match the colour of your watch to the rest of your outfit.

  • The more formal the event, the simpler your watch should be.
